| Minus Seven
(2003) This set of portraits show ice-pool swimmers as they emerge from the frozen waters surrounding Finland in the winter months. They follow on from Eight Miles in exploring the relationship between the swimmer and their landscape, the desire to participate and the extremes endured to do so - these factors changing according to the particular location. The swimmers stand with the frozen water as their backdrop, their body and expression reflecting their recent immersion - the light is that of the northern winter; moving from light to dark. |
